A Day in the Life-Mine seems pretty boring to me, but I will share anyways
6:45-Alarm goes off. I usually wake up earlier than this, but I shifted my hours so I can attend a late meeting. I hit the snooze button.
7:45-After hitting the snooze button a few more times and then checking Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. on my phone, I finally roll myself out of bed and put my contacts in.
7:50-Let the dog out and then make some tea. While I’m waiting for the water to boil I scarf down some yogurt that I got for free at Kroger the other day.
8:00-Sit down and drink some tea while watching the news and catching up on some blog posts on Bloglovin. It’s nice not having to be to work until10 am.
8:35-Get in the shower. Decide I probably don’t need to shave my legs since with this wonderful fall weather we’ve been having I can wear leggings and boots!
8:45-Get out of the shower. Take my time picking out something to wear, doing my make-up, drying my hair, curling my hair, etc. I also change playlists on Spotify every few minutes, so that takes up a chunk of time.
9:20-Put the dog in her bed. Tell her I’ll love her and will see her later. Pack my lunch while brushing my teeth.
9:30-Walk out the door.
9:31-Walk back in and make sure the stove and curling iron are off. I’m a freak and do this EVERY morning.
9:34-Officially leave for work. Blast some John Mayer music and send prayers/wishes that today will be better than yesterday was.
9:55-Arrive at work. Yay for being early. This almost never happens.
10:00-Sit down at my desk and catch up on emails. Touch base with the other staff to find out what I missed since I left yesterday.
10:30-Start meetings with clients.
12:20-Scarf down some egg salad and multi-grain tortilla chips while getting notes ready for my 1:00 meeting.
12:50-Heat up a cup of tea and head to the conference room.
1:00-3:30-Longest meeting ever. Got called out of it a few times to take phone calls too, which kind-of threw me off a bit.
3:30-4:30-More meetings with clients.
4:30-Found out the meeting I stayed late for was changed to another day. Yay for getting to go home a little early.
5:20-Leave work and head for home. Contemplate going to the gym, but decide to put it off until tomorrow because I feel like I’m starting to get sick.
5:45-Get home. Put my stuff down, throw some sweats on and cuddle with my dog on the couch for a little bit.
6:00-Start heating up something for dinner. My friend Tracy knew I was having a bad day yesterday so she brought some comfort food to work today for me. Mac and cheese bites!
If I don’t label things at work, they disappear. Hence “Kari” written across the front of it.
6:30-Sit down and eat. They turned out pretty good, but I’m not sure if I would get them again.
7:00-Wash dishes and try to pick up my apartment a little. I don’t really get that much done though. There’s always tomorrow!
7:20-8:00-Watch some old episodes of Family Guy while looking up random things online. Listen to my dog snore on the couch next to me and start getting jealous that she’s sleeping.
8:15-Decide that I need to go to bed early and heat up a cup of Sleepytime Tea. Work on this blog post, while taking a few breaks to respond to some text messages.
8:45-Find this video on HelloGiggles and send it to one of my friends:
9:05-Hit publish and make a plan to be in bed by 9:30. I’m such an old lady.
What was everyone else’s day like? Do you go to bed super early too?
Happy Tuesday! Man am I glad it’s almost over though. Looking forward to starting a new day tomorrow, hopefully with a few less crabby people than I encountered today. The Yogi Tea that I had when I got home from work today really hit the nail on the head…
It’s an escape from the stress of everyday life/drama.
Interacting with people all over the world.
Meeting such nice people. I’m still very new to this, but I find that any conversations that I’ve had with other bloggers have been great and I get so excited when I see that someone has commented on here or reached out to me on Twitter.
15-My Favorite TV shows
These change pretty frequently, but right now they are:

16-Makeup-less Monday (Tuesday really) + what beauty means to you
It took a lot for me to put this picture up here. I almost didn’t do it. Self-confidence is something that I have struggled with for a very long time, possibly my whole life. About 3 years ago it got so bad that I went into treatment for anorexia (I will share my whole story someday, I promise). These days I am doing A LOT better, but there are still struggles. I grew up with girls that started wearing make-up in middle school and focused too much on diet and skinniness. As I’m getting older, I’m learned to appreciate what I see when I look in the mirror and actually wear very little make-up these days.
It sounds so cliche when I say this, but beauty IS on the inside. When you start looking at how amazing someone’s personality is or how brightly they shine, that’s when you realize how beautiful each and every woman really is.
Not sure if this really answers the question, but it’s something I try to focus on. Especially on the days when I struggle with my own confidence.
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” -Audrey Hepburn
“I have to be alone very often. I’d be quite happy if I spent from Saturday night until Monday morning alone in my apartment. That’s how I refuel. -Audrey Hepburn
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” -Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)
“You think that the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself plainly when you have need of him.” -Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” -Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)
“For as badass and unaffected as we try to come off, we’re all just one sentence away from being brought to the edge of tears.” -John Mayer
“Don’t be scared to walk alone. Don’t be scared to like it.” -John Mayer
“I’m in repair…I’m not together, but I’m getting there.” -John Mayer
“Very few things in life are worthy of the kind of emotional distress we put ourselves through.” -John Mayer
“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.” -Frida Kahlo
#13-My Guilty Pleasures
polishing my nails-it always helps to clear my mind and cheers me up a bit when I’m feeling down.
cooking-and eating more of it than I should
seasonal things-tea, beer, even coffee creamers. Right now, anything pumpkin is where it’s at.
bubble baths-haven’t really done this that much lately, but I need to get back in the habit.
red lipstick-makes me feel sassy, whatever that means.
90’s and 00’s pop music-Backstreet Boys, BBMak, and Westlife are my favorites.
flannel sheets-already mentioned this in a past post, but I love them.
trashy good romance novels-Linda Howard is my favorite. Pretty sure I’ve read ALL of her books.
FYI…This is a picture of a “guilty pleasures” list from one of my journals 12 years ago:
Oh to be 17 again…
What are some of your guilty pleasures? Any great things happen to you on this fabulous Monday?
Yes, I definitely have been slacking on the September Blogging Challenge. Time sure flies during the week. It’s time to play catch up and hopefully over the next few days I’ll get back on track and not fall behind again. Here’s to hoping.
So first off…6 Things about Fall that I’m Looking Forward To:
Okay so football season started a little over a week ago and I couldn’t be happier. Seriously, Sunday Funday is my favorite and I look forward to it when it’s not football season. Today I uploaded this recipe, so of course I had to have it while watching the Lions game this afternoon.
2. Seasonal Beer
Not sure what it is about seasonal beers, but I always get excited when I start seeing them in the stores.
3. Cider Mills
I love me some flip-flop weather, but it’s time to bring out all my favorite boots again.
5. Flannel sheets
Living in Michigan can be really cold at times, and I look forward to putting my flannel sheets on my bed every year. It’s the little things.
6. Leaves changing colors
I’m sure I will flood everyone’s photo streams with too many pictures once this starts happening.
Now…7 Things I Would Like to Work On/Improve About Myself
1. Keeping up with my laundry/housework-I get WAY behind sometimes
2. Budgeting-HAVE TO start saving money for my trip to the Bahamas in November.
4. Taking little moments of time to just relax and take care of myself-Work can get in the way of this sometimes.
5. Spending more time with my family-They live too close for me to only see them every few months.
6. Go to the gym more-I’m running a half-marathon next month and need to be more consistent with my training.
7. Be more outgoing-I think as an only child I tend to be too content being quiet, sometimes I need to talk more and get to know more people.
Finally…8 Things I Love About Myself
1. My calmness-Having gone through a lot when I was growing up, I have a strange ability to stay calm in crazy situations. It definitely has been helpful in the past.
2. My hair-Even though it’s shorter than I would like right now, I can almost always leave the house happy about the way it looks.
3. My eyes-Even though I have to wear glasses sometimes, I still like them.
4. My independence-Whatever you throw at me, I can handle it.
5. My running ability-I found this hobby about 2 years ago and don’t know what I would do without it now. I get depressed if I don’t do it regularly and it’s fun and exciting to see myself get better.
6. My loyalty-Don’t mess with my friends or family. Seriously. See what happens.
7. My career-Not sure if this really fits, but I’ve been a social worker for 6 years now and I know it’s a part of who I am. I get to help people all day. It’s stressful, but SO rewarding sometimes.
8. My random knowledge-You will see me on Jeopardy one day…you’ll see.
Happy Football Sunday! I hope everyone is has a relaxing day and that you enjoy watching all the games on TV today (if that’s your thing). Today I wanted to share one of my favorite (and the easiest) dip recipes. This is my go-to whenever I have to bring something to a casual party and one of my friends even has me make it for her as a birthday present every year.
I wasn’t joking when I said it was easy. There are only 3 ingredients.
Though I’m starting a few days late, I’m jumping into Girl Meets Life‘s September Blogging Challenge. August was a month of writer’s block on the blog, so I’m thinking that this will give me a little extra motivation Hopefully I will remember to do it everyday!
Today is Thankful Thursday. Some things that pop into my head are:
Yesterday I had an almost 4 hour phone conversation with one of my best friends who was out of the country for the past 2 weeks. We had a lot to catch up on! It sounds cheesy, but I am so thankful for friends who understand me, love me even with all my faults, and continue to stand by me through the good and especially the bad times.
2. My dog.
She will be 15 years old next month, so she’s definitely my little old lady. Gabby was one of my Christmas presents when I was 14 years old, which seems crazy since I will be 30 next year (I can’t tell you how many times I have said this lately…ugh). My mom picked her out for me, which makes her even more special because my mom passed away almost 13 years ago. She has been with me through a lot, and I just love my moments of cuddle time with her (which at times are few and far between since she can be kind-of a brat).
I know that this sounds pretty vague. Work in the social work field can be stressful, so I love genuine moments of laughter. Whether it be with friends, family, or just watching old episodes of Friends or Family Guy.
4. Mac & Cheese
Had to have at least one not so serious thing on here. I could not live without my favorite food!
Happy Thursday everyone! The next two days are going to be work free for me and I am actually looking forward to staying home and cleaning my apartment (which is an absolute disaster) and hanging out with my pup. She always has so much energy:
Must be tired from waking me up to go outside at 4 o’clock this morning.
Now on to some random thoughts for the day…
1. Has anyone been watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey this season? In past years, I could never get enough of it. Since I don’t have cable, I usually end up buying the episodes on iTunes or Amazon Prime. I also have all of Melissa Gorga’s music on my iPod. If I spend money on it, you know that I’m a true fan. This season has been a major let down though. I just couldn’t get into it, and stopped trying to watch it a couple weeks ago.
My favorite family on there was the Manzo’s, so I was super excited to see that they are getting their own spin-off next month…
Hopefully this will renew my interest in all things New Jersey. Albie Manzo is also nice to look at. This clip is also funny too:
2. My newest obsession is Tuna the Dog’s Instagram account. No matter how bad a day I am having, these pictures will always make me smile/laugh. My co-workers and I send email’s and texts back and forth with pictures of him. We may even have our own mini-fan club going on without even realizing it.
Also, I may have had a mini panic attack when I realized that I will only be in the “twenty-something” category for another 10 months. When do I start feeling like I’m not a teenager trapped in an adults body? If anyone could enlighten me, that would be fantastic.
4. One of my friends posted this on Facebook yesterday and it mad me laugh: 24 Signs You Grew Up On The Border To Canada. I definitely had many trips over there to drink when I was 19 and 20. Also, it is still scary when a customs officer tells you to pull over so they can search your car (even if you obviously have nothing to hide). It’s still pretty cool to be on the Riverfront in Detroit and say that you can see Canada:
(Picture is from a 5K that I did on the Riverfront in Detroit last year).
Now I’m off to try to accomplish something/anything today. Have a great Thursday!
Do you have any Random Thursday Thoughts to share?
Happy Labor Day everyone! My hope is that everyone was able to relax and enjoy their day off (if you live in the states that is).
Labor day got me thinking about the different jobs that I have had. Secretary, waitress, camp counselor, and now social worker. As someone that enjoys spending money or at least eating, I jumped at the chance to start making money of my own when I was younger.
Though I did get a job with a real paycheck when I was 14, even before that I was preparing for my future “career” in watching obnoxious children. As an eight year old, all I wanted to do was baby-sit. In third grade I was already anxious for the excitement of watching kids. As an only child, I didn’t have the perk of having younger siblings to practice on. So I practiced on my barbie dolls, stuffed animals, and sometimes my cousins when I was allow to pretend that I was in charge of them. I would read, re-read, and then read again all of the Babysitter’s Club books that I could get my hands on. Did anyone else write out all the books in a series and then highlight the titles when you were done reading them? Yeah…it could be just me.
The Baby-Sitters Club Guide to Babysitting suggested that I make a baby-sitting kit packed full of games and activities. I would carry it around with me in hopes that time would go by faster and I would be old enough to actually get hired. No such luck. I would have been awesome.
Anyways, once I was finally able to baby-sit real children (without having an adult looking over my shoulder), I realized how it really wasn’t as exciting as the BSC made it out to be.
It was still fun to pretend. And now it is fun to reminisce.
